Christopher Weimann (1946-1988) fue un artista y un investigador del marmoleado que marcó el camino a muchos otros. Quería trabajar con el color y amaba los libros y los papeles, así que en 1971 comenzó su carrera de dieciocho años aprendiendo por el viejo método de prueba y error hasta que aparecieron los primeros resultados. Experimentó el marmoleado en piel, madera, tela, incluso en bombillas, aunque desde luego el papel, concebido como guardas de libros, como fondo para caligrafía o como marco para manuscritos fue el centro de su actividad. Escribió dos libros: Marbled papers, del que hizo una edición de 200 ejemplares en tamaño folio, y Marbling in miniature. A partir de 1979, estudiando las “pinturas marmoleadas” de la colección de Edwin Binney III re-descubrió el denominado método de plantillas y reservas y publicó un artículo en la revista Fine Print detallando los pormenores de su investigación. En 1987 hizo un viaje a varios países europeos que terminó en Estambul del que volvió cargado de proyectos, como hacer un libro con flores marmoleadas, a las que imprimió su estilo pues fue el primer artista que las realizó suprimiendo el fondo Battal tradicional y otros. Pero no logró llevar a cabo ninguno pues el 30 de noviembre de 1988 falleció prematuramente de cáncer.


Christopher Weimann (1946-1988) was an artist and an investigator of marbling that marked the way to many others. He wanted to work with the colour and loved books and papers, so in 1971 he began his career of eighteen years learning for the old method of trial and error until the first results appeared. He experimented marbling on leather, wood, fabric, even in bulbs, although certainly papers, conceived as endleaves of books, as background for calligraphy or as frame for manuscripts was the center of his activity. He wrote two books: Marbled papers, of which he made an edition of 200 copies, and Marbling in miniature. From 1979, studying the “marbled paintings” of the collection of Edwin Binney III he re-discovered the so called method of reserve and stencils and published an article in the magazine Fine Print detailing the particulars of his investigation. In 1987 he did a trip to several European countries that ended in Istanbul at the end of which he returned full of projects, like doing a book with marbled flowers, on which he had his own style since he was the first artist who realized them withouit the traditional Battal background and others. But he did not manage to carry out any, since on November 30, 1988 he passed prematurely of cancer.
