“Cuando encuentras tu pasión... es cuando encuentras tu objetivo.”
Cuando encontré el Marmoleado, fue como llegar a casa.
He estado especializándome en el arte del Marmoleado desde hace 12 años y me veo como una artista de la Nueva Generación del Marmoleado moderno. Trabajo en mi estudio de casa que resuena constantemente como un zumbido lleno de proyectos. No tengo ninguna preparación formal y debo asistir aún a un taller de Marmoleado de alguna clase. Aprendí por el método de tanteo y error, indagando profundamente en la química de este arte. En Sudáfrica, donde hemos sido sancionados a estar lejos del mundo por muchas generaciones, el arte fue totalmente olvidado y esto ha sido un desafío enorme, pero pronto establecí las bases para ser un proveedor de Marmoleado local y comencé "el Renacimiento del Marmoleado en Sudáfrica”.“ La nueva campaña de enseñanza comenzó en 2009 y desde entonces he dado clases en 27 escuelas, a miles de niños y a cientos de profesores. Mi objetivo es que cada niño comprenda que mediante el Marmoleado puede crear algo hermoso, no tienen que ser artistas. Pretendo hacer el Marmoleado sostenible como un arte recurrente. También desarrollo habilidades motrices y enseñanza de ciencia, dentro de escuelas SA locales. Filmo actualmente vídeos y lecciones para hacer realidad este objetivo. También trabajo con comunidades rurales zulúes locales y enseño el arte como un método de decorar sus trabajos hechos a mano y así añadirles valor con objetivos de reventa. El Marmoleado también se usa como terapia de cura para la gente emocionalmente afligida dentro de las comunidades rurales. Mantiene a los niños alejados de la calle y les ofrece un modo de ganar unos ingresos. Es algo que las abuelas pueden hacer con los niños – no es necesaria ninguna electricidad - una gran ventaja en un país donde no es fiable o no está disponible para muchos.
Como una artista del Marmoleado he trabajado con muchos diseñadores de moda locales para boutique y moda la ropa. Tengo una gran demanda y encargos de Marmoleado en objetos de tres dimensiones, copia de modelos de papeles, telas grandes, cueros, tablas de surf, madera, cerámica, diseños digitales etc. Actualmente colaboro con Trayci Tompkins, del taller Cerámica Coleccionable de ZuluLulu. Lanzamos en diciembre una variedad de la cerámica marmoleada utilizable y va tan bien que lo introduciremos a escala nacional.
Debido a mi auto-enseñanza, he desarrollado mi propio estilo de Afro Retro, similar a un diseño de SA local llamado Shweshwe y luego también trabajo la fantasía, bosque sobre diseños marmoleados, mezclo medios, a menudo en colores excepcionalmente brillantes y valientes, concentrándome en la exactitud y repetición de los modelos.
Mi vida como marmoleadora era bastante solitaria. Pero a partir de 2009, cuando me afilié a Facebook, comprobé que había una comunidad entera de marmoleadores. Yo nunca había oído hablar de Ebrû o de Suminagashi. Un mundo entero se abrió ante mí y desde entonces he hecho muchos amigos que comparten la misma pasión y objetivo que yo, conservar vivo el arte del Marmoleado.
Me siento muy honrada, como una recién llegada a la comunidad internacional, de haber sido invitada a exponer mis iconos más allá de mi país. Espero que aquellos que se relacionan con mi trabajo experimenten alegría. La misma alegría que he visto que el Marmoleado da a miles.
Pueda ser el Marmoleado uno de los escalones que nos ayude a curar los corazones y mentes de muchos. Pueda nuestro color en movimiento, nuestros círculos dentro de círculos que se ondulan, ser la transformación que traiga amor y bondad a todos los que lo necesitan. El Marmoleado no es SÓLO Arte, es una ciencia y una terapia.

When I found Marbling, it was like coming home.
I have been specializing in the art of marbling for 12yrs and see myself as a New Generation modern marbling artist. I work from my home studio which is always a buzz with projects.
I have no formal training and am yet to attend a marbling workshop of some sort. I was forced to learn from trial and error, tripping deep into the chemistry of the art. In South Africa, where we have been sanctioned off from the world for many generations, the art was totally unheard of which proved a tremendous challenge, but soon I had established a local marbling supplier’s base and started the “The Revival of Marbling in South Africa”. “Teach the new generation campaign” started in 2009 and up to date I have taught at 27 schools, thousands of children and hundreds of teachers. My aim is to have each child realize that through marbling, they can all create something beautiful, they don’t need to be an artist. I aim to make marbling sustainable as an up cycle art. Motor skills development and science teaching, within local SA schools. I am currently formulating videos and lessons to make this a reality. I also work with local Zulu rural communities and teach the art as a method to decorate their handmade works to add value for resale purposes. Marbling is then also used as a healing therapy for emotionally distressed people within the rural communities. It keeps the kids off the street and gives them a way to earn an income. It is something that the grandmothers can do with the children - no electricity is needed - a massive benefit in a country where our electricity is unreliable or unavailable to many.
As a marbling artist I have worked with many local fashion designers for boutique and fashion wear. I have troubleshot and done commissioned marbling orders for 3D objects, duplication of patterns on papers, large scale fabrics, leathers, surf boards, wood, ceramics, digital designs etc. Currently I collaborate with Trayci Tompkins, ZuluLulu Collectable Ceramics. A range of usable marbled ceramics was launched in December and is doing so well that it will be introduced nationally.
Due to the fact that I am self-taught, I have developed my own style of Afro Retro, similar to a local SA design called Shweshwe and then also fantasy, forest over marbled designs, mixing mediums, often in exceptionally bright and bold colours, focusing on accuracy and repeat or layering of patterns.
My journey was rather lonely as a marbler. It was only in 2009, when I joined Facebook, that I realized there was a whole community of marblers out there. I had never heard of ebru or suminagashi . A whole world opened up to me and since then I have made so many friends that share the same passion and purpose as me to keep the art of marbling alive.
I am very honored, as a newcomer to the international community, to have been invited to exhibit with my icons from across the globe. I hope that those who interact with my work will have a sense of joy, the same joy that I have seen marbling give to thousands.
May Marbling be one of the stepping stones in helping us heal the hearts and minds of many. May our colour in motion, the circles within circles become ripples of transformation that brings love and kindness to all that need it. Marbling is not JUST Art, it is a science and a therapy.
